Nicki Minaj slammed By Jewish Group For Using Nazi-inspired Images In New Song

Nicki Minaj has been slammed by an anti-semitism group for using ‘Nazi-inspired imagery’ in her new music video for hit Only.

The rapper acts out the role of dictator in the animated short film, using black and white imagery which appears to take inspiration from the well-known Nazi propaganda.

After fans hit out on social media, Jewish campaign group Anti-Defamation League (ADL) have spoken of their outrage too, at the “insensitive” footage.

“Nicki Minaj’s new video disturbingly evokes Third Reich propaganda and constitutes a new low for pop culture’s exploitation of Nazi symbolism,” ADL National Director Abraham Foxman, who is a Holocaust survivor, reportedly said in a statement.

He also spoke of the poor timing of the video, adding to Radar Online: “The irony should be lost on no one that this video debuted on the 76th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the ‘night of broken glass’ pogrom that signaled the beginning of the Final Solution and the Holocaust.”

The video, which also features Chris Brown, Drake and Lil Wayne, shows an army wearing red armbands, and flags showing a Y-M symbol -which has been slammed as too similar to a swastika.

The group calls it “insensitive to Holocaust survivors and a trivialization of the history of that era,“ adding: “The abuse of Nazi imagery is deeply disturbing and offensive to Jews and all those who can recall the sacrifices Americans and many others had to make as a result of Hitler’s Nazi juggernaut.”

One Twitter user wrote: “Hey @NickiMinaj thanks for the blatant Nazi imagery in your new video! really great allusion to persecution & genocide.”

Another non-impressed user said: “Nicki Minaj’s ‘Only’ video’s a boring accessory to a trivial song that uses Nazi imagery lazily & elevates Hitler for publicity. Just yawn.”

And another added: “The argument that Nicki Minaj isn’t using Nazi imagery in her new video is severely undercut by the song’s title ‘Hitler Rules’.”

The Y-M actually stands for Young Money, Lil Wayne’s record label, and he appears in the video acting out the role of Henry Ford, while Drake appears to be a pope, and Chris a military leader.

But Reddit users also began their own discussion under the headline: “The new Nicki Minaj video Only is glorifying Nazism and Hitler.”
