Nathaniel Clyne and Mats Hummels Featuring High up on Manchester United shortlist
Manchester United have reportedly handed Louis van Gaal a £150m summer warchest, with Nathaniel Clyne and Mats Hummels featuring high up on the shortlist.
Despite spending around £150m back in the summer on the likes of Angel di Maria, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, Van Gaal’s United are still a work in progress, and the Dutchman has come in for criticism for his side’s performances this term.
The Red Devils are currently third in the Premier League and remain on course to return to the Champions League at the first time of asking, but the United hierarchy want a title challenge next term.
Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman is also a target, while his Dutch compatriot Memphis Depay has also caught the eye after an outstanding season for PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie.
Southampton right-back Clyne has emerged as a prime target after starring for the Saints in their push for a Champions League spot, while Van Gaal is also keen to add some depth and quality to his ranks at centre-back.
Despite Borussia Dortmund’s poor season on the domestic front, Hummels’ stock remains high after winning the World Cup with Germany last summer, and LVG is keen on the 26-year-old centre-back, according to The Express.
Netherlands international Strootman has been a long-term target, but the 25-year-old underwent keyhole surgery last month, while Depay is the top scorer in the Eredivisie with 23 goals.
