Manchester United are lining up a January raid on Atletico Madrid for defender Miranda.
Louis van Gaal is desperate to improve United’s defence in the next transfer window and has identified the South American centre-back as the man to help his side qualify for the Champions League.
According to the Daily Star, it is understood the Old Trafford outfit will bid in the region of £20m for the 30-year-old, who has 13 caps for Brazil.
Although Miranda has been a regular at the Vicente Calderón Stadium for the past three seasons his place has come under pressure in recent months following the emergence of young defender Jose Gimenez.
And United hope the prospect’s growth in stature will persuade Atletico to do business for Miranda, who has a £24m release clause with the Spanish champions.
