Manchester United are said to be ready to make a move for Roma’s Kevin Strootman when the transfer window reopens in January.
According to Italian source Calciomercato, Strootman will be the first player Louis van Gaal looks to add to his ranks in the New Year, with the United boss desperate to bolster his squad.
The 24-year-old has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with Van Gaal’s predecessor David Moyes also a keen admirer.
But the Dutchman postponed a summer bid with Strootman still recovering from a long-term knee injury.
The midfielder has since returned to full fitness, making three appearances for the Serie A side since early November and now Van Gaal is ready to make his move.
It is unlikely United will get their man on the cheap however, with reports suggesting Roma will not entertain any offers below around £32m.
