Van Gaal ready to offer De Gea – if he can get Bale in exchange (Daily Star): If Gareth Bale is feeling a little underappreciated after getting stick from the Real Madrid fans this season, he needn’t worry – according to the Daily Star, Louis van Gaal is ready to rescue him from his torment and bring him to Old Trafford. He’s even prepared to offer David de Gea as a counterweight. It would be quite sacrifice to let De Gea go but United are to be confident they can sign Bale.
Paper Round’s view: David de Gea has probably been United’s most consistent player this season, but with the months ticking down on his contract and the opportunity to replace Iker Casillas dangling in front of him, it would seem a good move for him. But how much more money has Louis van Gaal got to throw at an all-star team?
Chelsea want Real Madrid duo (Daily Express): The Express, meanwhile, report rumours in Italythat if Bale doesn’t fancy Manchester, London is always an option – Chelsea are ready to offer £150million for him and Raphael Varane.
Paper Round’ view: Well, everyone seems agreed that Bale’s sojourn in Spain is coming to an end. The Chelsea switch seems a little less likely, with his Tottenham background, but money is always difficult to resist. He has also previously declared his love for United, so this move seems highly unlikely. Varane on the other hand is said to be getting frustrated at Madrid and has already worked under Mourinho.
Wolfsburg ready to sell Kevin de Bruyne to United (Daily Mirror): The Mirror pick up on reports in Belgium that Wolfsburg are prepared to entertain the idea of selling Kevin de Bruyne toManchester United – but only if they offer a minimum of 60million euros.
Paper Round’s view: That fee is close to United’s club record, which they paid for Angel di Maria – but evidently money is no object as van Gaal’s squad extends ever further. However, how many more players of De Bruyne’s ilk are they going to try to shoehorn into their team. United’s priorities should lay elsewhere – namely in central defence.
Arsenal looking at West Ham defender (Metro): Less glamorous settings for Arsenal’s transfer target – Aaron Cresswell, who currently resides at Upton Park. They’re willing to pay £15million to secure his signature.
Paper Round’s view: Arsenal are obviously keen on English talent – and as the Metro article suggests, a swap involving Carl Jenkinson seems a suitable solution all round. A move to Arsenal would mark quite the rise for 25-year-old Cresswell who only moved to this summer after spells at Tranmere and Ipswich Town. However, £15 million is auite he fee for a player who has yet to complete a full Premier League season.
