Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted he has no plans to sell Mario Balotelli in January despite reports linking the striker with a transfer back to Italy.
Reports in Balotelli’s homeland on Saturday claimed the 24-year-old had contacted Inter Milan about potentially securing a loan move to the Serie A side in the upcoming transfer window.
However, Rodgers has reiterated his stance that he does not want to sell the misfiring forward, instead saying he wants to do everything he can to keep the team together.
When asked about Liverpool parting ways with Balotelli in January, Rodgers said: ‘It’s not something I have even thought about, to be honest.
‘We’ve had a lot of games this season in a lot of competitions and, at this moment in time, the key for me is to keep this squad together.’
Balotelli has scored just twice in 15 appearances in all competitions for the Reds since completing a £16million move to the Merseyside outfit from AC Milan in the summer.
